Ringkasan:

In the period between King David and King Joash, Israel fell into idol worship because of the influence of King Solomon wives from idol worshipping nations.

And the kingdom was divided in two after the death of King Solomon. The northern kingdom consisted of ten tribes and was called Israel. The southern kingdom consisted only of two tribes, the tribes of Judah and Benjamin, and therefore became the kingdom of Judah. Many kings had ruled over Judah. Some were godly and others were wicked, but all were descendants of David, and all were in need of the promised Savior—the perfect Son of God—who would be born of David’s kingly line.

(2 Kings 11) Athaliah, the daughter of King Ahab and Queen Jezebel of the northern kingdom who worshipped false gods, had married into the royal house of Judah. When Athaliah’s son King Ahaziah was killed, she seized the throne and set about destroying the rightful royal heirs of Judah because she felt the heirs to the throne could be a threat to her position in the Kingdom of Judah.

But God used Jehoiada the priest and his wife, Jehosheba, to rescue the infant Joash, a descendant of King David, when it seemed as if the kingly line of David was in danger of being abolished. They hid Joash for six years while Athaliah reigned as a Queen of Judah. Then in the seventh year, in an orchestrated coup led by Jehoiada, Joash was crowned king at the age of seven and Athaliah was put to death.

David’s house was restored and allegiance to the true God was reaffirmed. It was through His faithful servants that God continued to keep the promise He had made to David long before. God had promised that He would establish the throne of David forever (2 Samuel 7:8-16).

The final fulfillment of that promise would come through the birth of Messiah, Jesus Christ our Savior, “the son of David, the son of Abraham”. It is through Him that we are called into God’s kingdom and blessed, and He is the one who reigns forever and ever (Luke 1:32-33, Revelation 11:15).

Lessons:
1) God is faithful to His Word and that He would care for His people always, even in fearful circumstances.
2) Children learn to trust God’s Word and His promises.
3) Children learn to be faithful to God.
4) Children thank God for keeping His promise to send the promised Savior to save us from sin.

Ayat Hafalan:

Psalm 33:4
For the word of the Lord is upright, and all His work is done in faithfulness.
