Last week children learned about the building of the Tabernacle that God instructed Moses to do. Children has learned about the first few furniture that God asked Moses to prepare, namely the Ark of the Covenant, the Table for the Bread of the Presence, the Golden Lampstand and the Altar of Incense. This week, children continued to learn two more furniture before the completion of the Tabernacle: the Bronze Altar and the Bronze Basin.

The Bible mentioned multiple times that Moses and the people of Israel had done the works “just as God commanded”. This means that they had prepared everything carefully and had followed completely what God has instructed them to do. And definitely it was God’s Spirit who enabled the people to do the work “just as God commanded”.

When the Tabernacle was completed and set up, God blessed his people and his guiding presence came to dwell with them. The Tabernacle indeed foreshadows the coming of Jesus Christ as he came to dwell among his people. We praise God that he is with those who trust in Jesus Christ and that he blesses and guides them always.

Lastly, it is also interesting to see the parallel between the Tabernacle and the Garden of Eden. Children learned some similarities between the two: materials used (gold and onyx stones), God instructed for a rest on sabbath day, the Golden Lampstand symbolized the tree of life, two cherubim serves to guard God’s dwelling place.

Ayat Hafalan:

Exodus 24:3
Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord and all the rules. And all the people answered with one voice and said, “All the words that the Lord has spoken we will do.”

17/01/2021 – The Building of the Tabernacle

Bahan Alkitab: Exodus 35:30-35, 36-37

Tanggal: 17/01/2021

God commanded the Israelites, through Moses, to build the Tabernacle as the dwelling place of God among his people. God is the designer and the architect. He instructed Moses of how exactly he wanted them to build the Tabernacle. And the people obeyed God.

God provided the materials (through the people’s freewill offering), the skilled craftsmen, and the detailed instruction. The people gave wholeheartedly for this endeavor, and their offering continued pouring until Moses had to tell them to stop giving as they already had enough. God provided among the people the skilled craftsmen who were filled with the Holy Spirit, who had the skills and knowledge and were able to teach others.

The building of the Tabernacle also told the people how God wanted to be worshipped. He wants his people to follow his instructions in obedience. The Tabernacle shows us how our God is artistic, majestic, loves beauty and wants his house to reflect how beautiful, majestic and awesome he is! This week we learned about the Ark of the Covenant, the Table, the Lampstand and the Altar of Incense.

More importantly, the Tabernacle foreshadows the coming of Christ, who incarnated to live and dwell among his people 3,000 years later. He is the only gate through whom we could come to God, and the only perfect sacrifice that could redeem us from sin and death!

Ayat Hafalan:

Exodus 25:8-9
And let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell in their midst. Exactly as I show you concerning the pattern of the tabernacle, and of all its furniture, so you shall make it.

10/01/2021 – Living in God’s Presence

Bahan Alkitab: Exodus 35:1–2, 10–19, 29 ; Numbers 2:1–2, 17 ; Exodus 40:34-38 ; John 1:14

Tanggal: 10/01/2021

Last week we learned that God told his people Israel to build a sanctuary. God gave Moses a detailed plan for his sanctuary, which the people were to follow exactly. But before the work actually began, God reminded them of the important of sabbath. By obeying, the Israelites were showing that they trusted God and were his covenant people.

When it was time to go to work, the people brought materials to build the tabernacle. The people gave willingly from the heart because God enabled them to do so. They were learning that God powerful and holy. He is loving and faithful to his people, and they wanted to respond to him in trusting obedience. They gave from hearts filled with gratitude. Then God said that all the Israelites who were skilled work- ers-those who were good at making things-were to come and build the tabernacle, using the materials God said the people were to bring.

God divided the people into camps. God had a different plan for the tribe of Levi: Moses, his brother Aaron and other Levite families. The Levites were placed closest to the tabernacle.

God arranged for it to be there to teach Israel to live in his presence and learn to depend on him. How wonderful that God was pleased to dwell in this tabernacle made by his people, exactly like the pattern he gave them! When it was set up and everything was in place, God kept his promise to come and live with his people.

In the new testament, we learned that tabernacle is just a shadow of the coming of Jesus, God who is willing to live among human.

Ayat Hafalan:

John 1:14
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

03/01/2021 – Worshiping God

Bahan Alkitab: Exodus 24:12-18; 20:1-8

Tanggal: 03/01/2021

God has design worship since beginning, we can see this from Cain and Abel gave offerings to God. Worship is very important because man is created and saved to worship God.
God has put the knowledge of His existence in everyone heart so that we know that there’s God but a lot of people suppress it and change it with others. When man worship other gods, they worship it with their own ways because all these are created by man.
When God called Israelites to become His people, He shared with them who He is so that Israelites know whom they worship and God also shared to them how He wants them to worship God. To have closer relationship with them, God wants to stay in the midst of them therefore God asked Moses to build Tabernacle for Him to stay.
Questions to ponder:
1. Do we know whom we worship?
2. Do we know how to worship God?
3. What kind of attitude we have when we worship God?
4. When do we come to worship God?

Ayat Hafalan:

Exodus 24:3
Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord and all the rules. And all the people answered with one voice and said, “All the words that the Lord has spoken we will do.”

20/12/2020 – A Savior Is Born

Bahan Alkitab: Luke 2:1-20

Tanggal: 20/12/2020

This week children learned the story of the birth of Jesus Christ. Our celebration of Christmas every year should focus on the best Gift that God has given to us that he has sent his only Son, Jesus Christ, to the earth.

From Bible lesson this week, children learned the following points:
1. This world tells us a different meaning of what Christmas is about. True meaning of Christmas is about Christ.
2. We thank God for sending his very own Son to earth. He came to die on the cross for us so that we might have eternal life. This is the best gift of all!
3. The shepherds did not keep the good news to their own selves but they shared it to many others. Do we have obedience to share the good news to our friends?

May children will be able to stay focused on the true meaning of Christmas, praising God for the best gift to us and also to share the good news to many others.

Ayat Hafalan:

Luke 2:11
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

13/12/2020 – The Coming of Jesus

Bahan Alkitab: Luke 1:26-56

Tanggal: 13/12/2020

From the Bible lesson today, we learn the following:

1) God is faithful to his promises. Now the time has come for God to send the promised Savior into this world.
2) Through the angel Gabriel, God told Mary that the Holy Spirit will come upon her, she will conceive and give birth to a son, who will be called Jesus, which means the Savior or the Messiah.
3) Mary believed the angel’s message about Jesus, that she will bear in her womb the Son of the Most High and she praised God.
4) The Bible also calls Jesus Immanuel, which means God with us. In the Gospel of John, he is called the Word. Jesus is the name above all names (Philippians 2:9-11)
5) This Christmas, what is my response to the name of Jesus? Is it just something that I hear every week? Or do I want to welcome Jesus into my heart as my Lord and Savior?

Ayat Hafalan:

1 John 4:14b
The Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.

06/12/2020 – Getting Ready for the Son of God

Bahan Alkitab: Luke 1:5-25

Tanggal: 06/12/2020

God has given His promise to save man from the wrath of sin when Adam and Eve has fallen into sin. We can find this promise thru out the Old Testaments. He even reveals it progressively, start from the offspring of the woman till a very detail revelation (born in Bethlehem).
John is a man that prepared by God to prepare the way for the Savior and he was mentioned in the OT as well. He prepared the heart of the people to accept and receive the Savior.

Children learns that they can always trust God as He always fulfill His promise. As John is willing to be used by God to prepare the heart of the people, children also asked if they are willing to be used by God to prepare the hearts of people around them to receive Jesus.

Ayat Hafalan:

Malachi 3:1a
Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me.

29/11/2020 – Depending on Jesus

Bahan Alkitab: Exodus 19:1-8; 20:1-17 ; Romans 8:3-4; Hebrews 10;16; Colossians 3:17; Philippians 1:6

Tanggal: 29/11/2020

This week children learned that the Law that God has gave to us is good and it shows that the giver of the Law Himself is good.
Disobeying the commandment given by God means that we have done wrong and sin unto God, and we learned that we are unable to follow God perfectly because we are sinners.

Understanding the Law also means that we realize that we often disobey God and understand that we need a Savior and God has done the unimaginable which is sending His Son, Jesus to live as a human, fulfil the Law perfectly, and paid for our sins on the Cross.

Children is reminded that the 10 Commandments was given to Israel after they are being saved from Egypt.
This means that we are not obeying God to be saved but we are saved first and only then we can obey God.
We are still studying the 10 Commandments because this is how God wants us to live.

Children also learned that we can still fall into sin and when we do, we should not run away from God but we need to confess our sins, ask Jesus for forgiveness and ask Him for guidance.

Ayat Hafalan:

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

22/11/2020 – Responding To God’s Commandments

Bahan Alkitab: Matthew 19:16-26

Tanggal: 22/11/2020

The story of the rich young man who came to Jesus thinking that he was a good man, teaches the children that being a good man does not allow a person to have the eternal life. Jesus’s answer showed that the young man did not keep the commandments perfectly.

In order to have eternal life we have to be perfect. It is impossible because we are all sinners. The only way to get eternal life is by trusting Jesus as the one who have kept all the laws perfectly for us.

Ayat Hafalan:

Galatians 3:11

Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.”

15/11/2020 – Learning to Be Content

Bahan Alkitab: 1 Kings 21; 1 Timothy 6:6-7; Luke 12:15; Philippians 4:10-13

Tanggal: 15/11/2020

This week children learned about the 10th commandment, that says “You shall not covet…”. Covet is not only about wanting something; Covet means wanting something that belongs to someone. Coveting begins in the heart. It is an attitude that says, “I want something I don’t have” in the way that is wrong. Sinful attitude on the inside can lead to sinful actions. When we covet, we are not satisfied. We feel jealous, envious and resentful.

Children learned the story of King Ahab who coveted Naboth’s vineyard. From the story, we can learn the following:
1. We covet because we cannot be content with what we receive from God
2. When we covet, it affects our minds and attitudes so badly
3. Sin of coveting leads to more and more sin (lying, stealing, killing)

God wants the children to do the following:
1. God commands us to hate sinful thoughts and do what is right
2. God wants us to be satisfied with what he gives us and thankful for the blessings that others enjoy
3. The only way we can learn to be content is keep trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ and accept what he has provided for us. We can learn from Paul who wrote a letter to the Philippians “Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content… I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”

Ayat Hafalan:

Philippians 4:6
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
