18/04/2021 – Depending on God’s Spirit to Spread the Gospel

Bahan Alkitab: Acts 8:1-8, 26-40; Matthew 28:18-20; Luke 8:5-15

Tanggal: 18/04/2021

For the past two weeks children have been learning about the resurrection of Jesus and his ascension to heaven. After that the Holy Spirit was outpoured. One of the signs of someone filled with the Holy Spirit is that he will speak the word of God with boldness. And it is Jesus’ command to make disciples of all nations as we go, which means wherever God place us and whoever we meet.

The apostles and deacons of the early church were persecuted because of their boldness to proclaim about Jesus Christ. One of the deacons, Stephen, was even stoned to death. This made Christians scattered throughout Judea and Samaria. But the word of God was still preached.

One of the deacons, Philip, preached the word of God to Samaritans with power and he healed the lame and paralyzed. Many of them believed and gave themselves baptized. The Holy Spirit then asked him to go to meet an Ethiopian eunuch, someone that he never imagined to proclaim about Jesus to. But Philip obeyed and taught him about Jesus Christ.

There are some key take away points from the lesson this week:
1. It is Jesus’ command to make disciples of all nations as we go (wherever we are and whoever we meet)
2. The Holy Spirit will prepare the hearts of unbelievers to hear and believe the gospel. Without the work of the Holy Spirit, no one can believe in Jesus Christ
3. Going beyond our comfort zone is never easy. Just as the Holy Spirit enabled Philip, we can ask the Holy Spirit to give us willingness and courage to proclaim about Jesus Christ
4. Our task is to sow the seed of God’s Word to others with the help of the Holy Spirit to change hearts of the sinners

Ayat Hafalan:

Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth

11/04/2021 – Jesus Ascend to Heaven

Bahan Alkitab: John 20:24-29

Tanggal: 11/04/2021

After Jesus rises from the death, He showed Himself to His disciples and others for 40 days after that He ascends to Heaven.

His ascension shows that He has completed His work that the Father has given Him and it is accepted by God as He is seated on the right hand of God.

From there He rules as the Kings of king and He also intercede for us as our High Priest.

He didn’t leave us the Christians alone in this world but Jesus and the Father send the Holy Spirit to convict us, teach us about the Word and guide us in our daily life.

Jesus promise to come again therefore will He find us faithful?

Ayat Hafalan:

1 John 2:28
And now, little children, abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not shrink from him in shame at his coming.

04/04/2021 – Jesus Rises from the Dead

Bahan Alkitab: John 20:1-21, Matthew 28:1-8, Luke 24:1

Tanggal: 04/04/2021

Today we will learn about the events surrounding the first Easter, when Jesus Christ first resurrected from the dead, just as he had promised.

Jesus died on the Cross for our sin, so that we could be forgiven by God and enter God’s kingdom. This was the very reason why Jesus incarnated to be a human.

But the death of Christ was not the end. He resurrected from the dead on the third day, because he has victory over sin and death!

The resurrection proved that Jesus is the Son of God, as he claimed to be. The resurrection was proof that He had accomplished what he had promised. The sacrificial death that Jesus died on the Cross was sufficient, and that our sins can be forgiven.

The resurrection was proof that Jesus is our living God, he had accomplished what he had promised, and will continue to be faithful to all the promises that he had made.

The resurrection shows that death was unable to hold Jesus, death was defeated once and for all.

Ayat Hafalan:

Matthew 28:6
He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.

28/03/2021 – Jesus is Betrayed and Faces His Accusers

Bahan Alkitab: Matthew 26:14-56; John 13:26-30; Matthew 26:57-27:31; Luke 22:61-62; Luke 23:6-11

Tanggal: 28/03/2021

his week we learn about the last supper, Judas betrayed Jesus, gethsemane until Jesus was captured by the religious leaders.

The disciples thought that they can be faithful to Jesus, but they were afraid and betrayed HIm. Peter denied Jesus three times. It is very hard to be a faithful follower of Jesus. You can be a faithful follower in every situation only because you have the Holy Spirit living inside you.

The Bible says, “The Lord is my helper” (Heb. 13:6).

You need to depend on Him because even though you may want to be a faithful follower of Jesus, it’s not always easy.

The soldiers brought Jesus to the home of the temple high priest, where the other leaders had gathered. They hated Jesus and wanted to have Him put to death. But they couldn’t find anything to accuse Him of, so they brought some men who would tell lies and accuse Him of things He hadn’t done. Jesus was innocent. He was not guilty of any sin.

Unlike Jesus you and I are not innocent. We were born guilty sin. Sin is wanting your own way instead of God’s way. The Bible says you deserve to be separated from God in a terrible place called Hell because you are guilty of sin.

Jesus took all of that suffering and pain for you. He was innocent but took all your guilt on Himself when He died on the cross. He knew this was the only way your sin could be forgiven. The Bible says, “But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12). You receive Jesus by believing (trusting completely) that He is the Son of God, who died and came alive again for you. When you receive Him, He will forgive your sins and make you His child. He will change you on the inside so you can live to please Him. Someday you’ll be able to live with Him in Heaven. Will you receive Him today?

Ayat Hafalan:

1 Peter 3:18
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit.

21/03/2021 – Jesus Is Praised

Bahan Alkitab: Matthew 21:1-17; Luke 19:39-44

Tanggal: 21/03/2021

This week children will learn about praising Jesus.

Before entering the city of Jerusalem, Jesus and His disciples came to the village of Bethphage at Mount of Olives. There Jesus sent two disciples to find and bring Him a colt, on which no one has ever yet sat. This fulfilled the prophesy in Zechariah 9:9.

Many people, the crowds and multitudes of disciples, who went ahead of Him and followed Him shouted,
“Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!”
Most of the crowd spread their cloaks on the road and cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. This symbolized the welcoming of a king.

Jesus did not rebuke them, as the Pharisees wanted Him to do, although He knew that the crowds thought of him as the coming Messiah who would rescue them from Roman Empire.

When Jesus entered into the temple, there were young children who praised him, “Hosanna to the Son of David!”. Again, the Chief priests and scribes asked Jesus to rebuke them but Jesus refused to do so.

Jesus welcomed the praise from those people. And Jesus deserves all our praise too because He is our Lord and our God

However, we can only truly praise Jesus from our heart if we have trusted Him as Savior. We can’t truly praise the Lord until our sins are forgiven.

May children praise Jesus with all their hearts, knowing that Jesus deserves all their praise.

Ayat Hafalan:

Psalm 34:1
I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth

14/03/2021 – Mary Anoints Jesus at Bethany

Bahan Alkitab: John 12:1-8

Tanggal: 14/03/2021

Since Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, the people reacted to this miracle very differently. Some people came to believe him, but some went on to plot to kill him.

When Jesus was at the house of Simon the leper, Mary sat at his feet. She gave her most precious possession, the ointment of pure nard, which was very precious and had the value of more than 300 denarii (1 year’s wage of that time).

That moment was a Kairos moment for her. She poured out the perfume on Jesus’ feet and wiped it with her feet, to show her worship and devotion to God. She humbly gave all that she had to Jesus and laid it at his feet.

In contrast, Judas said, “why this waste”? Judas was more concerned about the money because he used to steal the treasury money. Jesus said, “leave her alone, she is doing this to prepare for the day of my burial. You will always have the poor, but you will not always have me.”

Jesus was pleased and accepted Mary’s act of devotion and worship. “Wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will be told in memory of her.”

Ayat Hafalan:

John 12:7
Jesus said, “Leave her alone, so that she may keep it for the day of my burial.”

07/03/2021 – Jesus Raises Lazarus

Bahan Alkitab: John 11:1-53

Tanggal: 07/03/2021

After Jesus heard that Lazarus was ill, Jesus stayed 2 days more before going to Bethany. He knew Lazarus would die and He was going to raise Lazarus up.

Thru this miracle Jesus wants:
1. To tell the disciples and Israelites that He is God and He was sent by the Father
2. To tell them that He is resurrection and life and whoever believe in Him will not die

Question to ponder for children:
After learning that Jesus is resurrection and life, what will be our reaction? Will we be believe in Him or will we be like the Pharisees and the Chief Priest that plan to kill Jesus?

Ayat Hafalan:

John 11:25-26
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

28/02/2021 – Worshiping as a church

Bahan Alkitab: Leviticus 23:1-3; 2 Chronicles 7:1-3; Psalm 84:1-4; Luke 4:14-19; Acts 2:42-47; Colossians 3:15-17; Hebrews 10:23-25

In the old testament, the Israelites worship God in the tabernacle, according to the way that God has taught them. God determined some special days, and Sabbath day for the Israelites to worship God. Later on the Israelites continue to worship God in the temple that King Solomon built. Many years after worship at the temple began, God sent his Son, Jesus, to be the Savior of his people. Before Jesus died on the cross as the perfect sacrifice for sin, he went from place to place teaching his disciples and those who came to listen to him. Every Sabbath, Jesus went to the synagogue, the place where Jews met to worship, study the Scriptures and pray. He went to the service, read God’s Word and then preached the good news of the gospel. By his example, Jesus did what God commanded in his Word, gathering with the people for public worship on the Sabbath. Explain that It was always God’s plan for his people to come together as a congregation. And after Jesus died on the cross, rose from the dead and returned to his Father in heaven, disciples and believers met together regularly to worship him, coming together on the first day of the week, the Lord’s Day. The tabernacle and temple were no longer needed. God’s people did not have to come to the priest with an animal for sacrifice. God’s Spirit had come to dwell in the lives of those who put their trust in the Savior’s once-for-all sacrifice for them. Now they could come to him gladly and freely, with hearts cleansed from sin.

Important points:
The church is not a building, church is a family, a big family of God. We are the body of Christ, we worship God together as a church.

God has taught us the way to worship Him through:

a. The way Israelites worship in tabernacle and temple in Jerusalem – there are: sacrifice, offerings, steps, ceremonies, holy days, special place to gather, special items and clothings. The way they worship God in the tabernacle points to the coming of Jesus.

b. The way Jesus taught and read the bible in the temple during his lifetime.

c. The way Jesus’ disciples gather and worship together after Jesus’ ascensions.

Ayat Hafalan:

Hebrews 10:24-25
…not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

21/02/2021 – Drawing Near to God through Christ

Bahan Alkitab: Hebrews 9:1-15; 10:1-25; Hebrews 13:15-16

Tanggal: 21/02/2021

For the past few weeks, children have been learning about God’s commandment on how the people of Israel should worship Him, which include the setting apart of the priests, type of sacrifices to offer, and the holy days to keep.

This week children will learn about how God established Tabernacle worship for people of Israel to draw near to Him. However, the animal sacrifice could not take away the sins once-for-all. The people of Israel had to offer a yearly sacrifice on the Day of Atonement because they knew that the animal sacrifice was not perfect and the priests, mere sinners, were not good enough to become mediator. All these pointed forward to the coming of Jesus Christ, the promised Savior.

Children will learn few take away points from the lesson today:
1. We no longer need a tabernacle or animal sacrifice to worship God
2. It is through Jesus Christ that God has made a way for us to freely draw near to him in worship
3. Jesus Christ is our High Priest and he is also the perfect sacrifice for our sins
4. Having our sins forgiven, we should continually offer him our praise, worship, and acts of service and love as spiritual sacrifices that are pleasing to God

We give thanks to God that he has given us Jesus Christ so that we can draw near to him!

Ayat Hafalan:

Hebrews 7:24-25
but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them

14/02/2021 – The Sacred Assemblies

Bahan Alkitab: Leviticus 16, 23, 25, Exodus 12:3-11

Tanggal: 14/02/2021

God gave specific instructions to the Israelites for worshipping him through Moses. And the people have to obey God in every detail, as this is how God wants the people to worship Him.

He set people, places and things apart as holy. He has set the Tabernacle, the priests, the garments as holy. Furthermore, God designated holy days for this people to keep forever. Major holy days are set forth in Leviticus 23 with specific instructions from God on how they are to be celebrated. We covered the 7 sacred assemblies in this lesson: the Sabbath, the Passover, the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the Feast of Firstfruits, the Feast of Weeks, the Feast of Trumpets, the Day of Atonement and the Feast of the Tabernacle.

Through these assemblies the people were to remember God with joy and thanksgiving, celebrating his goodness and redemption. The festivals also show the character of God – his holiness, justice, sovereignty, generosity and faithfulness in keeping his covenant promise.

The Day of Atonement was the most holy day of the Year and it is the only day where the High Priest was able to enter into the Most Holy Place. The Israelites have to deny themselves by fasting, praying and repenting of their sins during the past year. The Day of Atonement was the day of the removal of the guilt of sin. But it was a shadow of what was to come and how God is going to achieve that through the life and ministry of Jesus Christ.

By suffering and dying on the cross, Jesus accomplished completely and permanently all that the sacrificial system did incompletely. What the sacrifices only served as a reminder, Jesus was the perfect, unblemished sacrifice that God gave to mankind, through whom we can receive forgiveness of sin. Praise be to God!

Ayat Hafalan:

Hebrews 10:10b
We have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
