This bible story is about a story told by Jesus to his students. When Jesus told a story, Jesus is teaching a special lesson to the students about God and themselves, including us.
In this story Jesus told the story about two men – a wise man and a foolish man. The wise man knows what is right and wrong. He knows that to build a strong house requires solid rock as the foundation so that the house would not move when there is rain and wind. So he dug into the rocks to make the base for his house. Digging deep into rocks is difficult as rocks are hard but the wise man continue to dig knowing it is right.
On the other hand, the foolish man, build his house on a sandy ground as it is easier and faster to build his house.
When heavy rain and strong wind came, the house built on the rock stay firm and strong while the house built on the sandy ground moved and eventually was destroyed.
Jesus said people who listen to Him and obeys His Word is like the wise man who build his house on the rock and those who listen and disobeyed his Word is like the foolish man who build the house on the sand. We are wise not because we are smart but because God gave us the wisdom. God wants us to know what He wants and for us to obey Him. Children may come to Sunday School, listen to the bible story and forget about it tomorrow. We should guide them to listen carefully to the bible story, understand it and act on it in their lives.
For instance, Children have learnt about forgiveness in the last two weeks. If their friends did mean things to them, they feel angry and hurt. Do they continue to feel angry and would like to do mean things to their friends or they can forgive their friends, knowing that God has forgiven our sins. This is not easy but just like building the house on the rock is not easy, we should still continue doing it. We knows that God is with our children and will help them to it.
May through this bible story our Children may learn to trust more in God’s Words and obey them.
