Summary of the story:

After suffering from the 10 plagues, Pharaoh the King of Egypt asked the Israelites to leave Egypt at once. There were about 2 millions of Israelites left Egypt with their animals that day. Throughout their journey back to Canaan, the homeland of Abraham/Isaac/Jacob, God provided the Israelites a special guidance and protector, i.e. the pillar of cloud and fire. These pillars led the Israelites the way and protected them from the weather during the day and night.

Few nights after the Israelites left Egypt, they reached and rested at the shores of the Red Sea. Suddenly, in the distance, they saw that Pharaoh and his soldiers were coming with the chariots. The Israelites were terrified and started complaining to Moses. They said that they would be better if they stayed in Egypt, rather than dying in front of the Red Sea. They did not remember that their powerful God, who just helped them from the 10 plagues, could save them from the hand of the Egyptians. But, Moses put his trust in God and said to the Israelites “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will work for you today”.

God already had a plan to save the Israelites, despite the Israelites’ disbelief. God loves His people and will never leave them alone in difficulties. That night God told Moses to raise his hands towards the Red Sea to divide the sea. As soon as Moses stretched his hands towards the sea, a strong wind blew and made the sea parted. Moses then asked all the Israelites to walk on the dry ground in the middle of the sea. Even though the Egyptians chased after the Israelites through the sea, the Egyptians could not come closer to the Israelites as God protected the Israelites throughout that night. God sent the pillar of cloud and the angel of God to move behind the Israelites to separate the Israelites from the Egyptians, while the pillar of fire moved in front of the Israelites to guide them the way.

In the morning, God in the pillar of cloud and fire looked down on the Egyptians and clogged the chariot wheels so that they drove heavily. The Egyptians were about to retreat their forces when God asked Moses to stretch out his hands over the sea. Immediately, the seawater returned back and covered the Egyptians. All the Egyptians who chased the Israelites were drowned in the Red Sea. Thus, God saved the Israelites from the hand of the Egyptians. After seeing this great power of God against the Egyptians, the Israelites believed in the Lord and praise the Lord.
