Zechariah and his wife, Elisabeth were Jews. Zechariah and Elizabeth loved God and obeyed His word. They were never blessed with a child. They prayed and hoped that one day they would have a child.
One day, Zechariah’s serve as a priest in the temple. As he prayed, suddenly an angel of God came and stood beside the altar. ”Do not be afraid Zechariah!” your prayer had been heard.” the Angel said. Elizabeth, your wife will give birth to a son, who would be filled with the Holy Spirit. And You are to name him John. God had special plan for him, to prepare the way for the Messiah.
How is this possible? Zechariah asked the angel. The angel said,” I am Gabriel, God is the one who sent me to bring you this good news.” Because you have doubted this message from God, you will not be able to speak again until the baby is born.”
God kept His promise to Zechariah and Elizabeth became pregnant. Their neighbor’s and relatives all came, they said :”It was a miracle of God! a baby was born to Zachariah and Elizabeth, The Lord is so good.” The people start asking: What’s the baby name? He asked the people around him using a sign and asked for a writing tablet, he wrote the baby’s name,” His name is John.” and immediately at that moment he was able to talk again. He was so glad and he said : “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel.” He thanked God that God had kept His promise.
Many years later, John already grew up. John preached, “Turn away from your sins and get ready for the coming of the messiah.” Many people believed they confessed their sins and were baptized. John told them. One will come after me, who will baptize with the holy spirit and with fire. He is the most powerful of all, and I’m not even fit to unfasten or carry his sandals.” Who was he? He was the messiah who brought salvation, the redeemer and he was the one that was going to bring us to God. He is Jesus Christ our Lord.
God has a plan for our lives as well, like how God used John the Baptist. So what should we do? Share this good news to our friend, our family member or our neighbor about Jesus Christ our Lord is the only savior, redeemer, king of kings.
