This week we are going to learn from the story that:
1. The God of Israelites is the true God, who can redeem His people by His mighty power
2. God will save the obedient; on the contrary, the disobedient ones will be punished;
3. Jesus is the lamb of God, who saves us from the eternal punishment
Below is the summary of the story:
God sent Moses to save the Israelites out of Egypt. But, because of his hardened heart, Pharaoh the King of Egypt refused to let the Israelites go. As a consequence, God sent 9 plagues on the Egyptians, but protected the Israelites, to show everyone in Egypt that He is the true and powerful God (unlike the Egyptian’s gods).
Moses came before Pharaoh and asked him to let the Israelites go for the 10th time. But, again Pharaoh refused to let the Israelites go. Then, Moses told Pharaoh that God will send the last plague on Egypt, which is the death of all firstborns.
Afterwards, Moses told the Israelites about the last plague before they were brought out of Egypt. However, God will save the Israelites’ firstborns by passing over the houses with the blood of a perfect lamb on the doorframe. Moses also told them that after slaughtering the lamb, they shall burn and eat the lamb until finished with fastened belt, sandals on the feet, and staff on the hand. The Israelites obeyed what God told Moses.
In the middle of the night, a great cry heard in the land of Egypt, but all the firstborns in the houses with the blood of the lamb were saved. Then, Pharaoh called Moses and asked him to bring all the Israelites and their flocks out of Egypt immediately.
Just like God saved the Israelites from the death of firstborns by the blood of a perfect lamb (the 1st Passover), God also saves us from the eternal death by the blood of Jesus (the Passover). Jesus is the perfect Lamb of God, whose blood will save us from sins.
