Ringkasan:

Story from 2 Kings 11:

During one of the dark period of the kingdom of Judah, when king Ahaziah died, Athaliah (the wife of his father king Joram) arose and killed all the royal family of King Ahaziah. She wanted to wipe out the royal family and declared herself to be the queen in Judah.

It was then that Jehosheba (the sister or king Ahaziah) saved Joash from the rest of the royal princes. She and her husband Jehoiada hid the young Joash in the temple of God. They cared for him and nurtured him. The people of Judah did not know this and they may have lost hope, thinking that God did not keep his word in preserving David’s royal line.

When the time was right, 6 years later, Jehoiada gathered the people and the temple guards and showed them the young Joash and crowned him as the rightful king of Judah. Athaliah came upon hearing the commotion and shouted “treason!”. Jehoiada instructed the temple guards to bring her out of the city and put her to death.

Lessons from the story of King Joash, Jehosheba and Jehoiada:

1) God is faithful in preserving the kingship of David, which he promised, even when there are threats in this world.
2) We may face difficulties in this world, which we cannot understand. But we can continue to trust God for his deliverance.
3) God can use others around us to care for us. Like king Joash, God used Jehosheba and Jehoiada to care for him. Thank God for the people whom he put around us to nurture us.
4) God’s promise of the kingship of David was fulfilled in Jesus Christ.

Ayat Hafalan:

Psalm 33:4
For the word of the Lord is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness.
